About the Gallery:
The Roper Gallery is a large contemporary exhibition space at Bath Artists’ Studios, right in the heart of Bath’s creative scene. Set within a working studio complex, it’s more than just a place to showcase your work - hiring here is a chance to connect with other artists, experiment with new concepts and engage with the public. The Roper’s contemporary setting also makes it a brilliant backdrop for capturing high-quality shots of your work, perfect for portfolios or future promotion. Our aim is an exciting, ever-changing programme of new work. We welcome applications from artists at every stage, from students and graduates to established names - with a particular commitment to championing emerging talent.
Hiring the Gallery:

Hire of The Roper Gallery costs £150 is per week plus 20% commission on any sales

We provide plinths, tables and tools to hang your work. Out studio manager is on hand to give guidance on exhibiting. Included in the price is an evening preview until 9pm. Alcohol is permitted provided it is not for sale (we do not hold an alcohol license) We can provide glasses.

Nearby Parking
Parking at the studios is limited and reserved for studio holders and exhibitors. There is nearby parking in Victoria Park free for the first hour, charges apply thereafter. There is free but limited parking on Park Lane next to the skate park, or paid parking in Charlotte Street car park about a 10 min walk away.
There is one disabled parking space at the studios for visitors. The gallery is at ground level and is suitable for wheel chairs and mobility scooters.

Roper Gallery Hire - Terms & Conditions
By booking the Roper Gallery, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions set out below and they will be incorporated into the contract between you and Bath Artists’ Studios (‘BAS’). Please ensure you have read and understood the following terms.
Payment for your booking becomes due on the booking being confirmed. Until we receive payment, we reserve the right to release your booking to another customer. Booking cancellations must be notified to us in writing. If a cancellation is made up to 28 days in advance of the date of booking, a refund will be offered. Refunds for cancellations notified less than 28 days in advance of the date of booking are at BAS’ sole discretion.
If any of these terms and conditions are not complied with, BAS reserves the right to cancel the booking and will not be liable for any costs or consequential losses that you may incur.
General:
● The Roper Gallery costs £150 per week to hire and BAS additionally a 20% commission on any sales. A £25 deposit is payable before the exhibition and will be returned at the end of the exhibition if all is left in good order.
● Our gallery opening times are 10am to 4pm (except where a preview outside of these hours has been agreed with the studio manager in advance). We require a commitment for you or your associates to be physically present in the gallery space to invigilate your show for all hours in which it is open to the public.
● If your show involves working with children or vulnerable adults, it is a condition of hire that you provide us with the safeguarding documentation requested by us and as set out in our policies.
Your commitments:
● Where an artist is collaborating with one or more other participants, the names and contact details of other participants must be provided to the BAS studio manager ahead of commencement.
● We encourage exhibitors to put on an opening event or private view. Alcohol can be consumed at your preview providing it is not being sold. BAS does not hold an alcohol licence.
● Exhibitors will be given access to the key box and gate code for invigilation access, to put up and take down the show and for any special events you may wish to run during the run of the show. These codes must not be shared with anyone else. Exhibitors will be responsible for securing the building if they have checked that they are the last to leave. You will be given an induction on arrival.
● Nb: Toilet and kitchen facilities will be available to hirers when studio holders or a member of staff is present in the building and by prior agreement with the BAS studio manager. Otherwise the only accessible areas are the gallery and yard. The nearest public toilets are across the Victoria Bridge at Costa Coffee.
● The gallery must be left in the clean and tidy condition as found and any holes filled at the end of the exhibition and the gallery locked when exhibitors are not invigilating.
● On hiring the gallery you agree to comply with health and safety policies available to view on the website and to not bring candles or a naked flame into the building.
● BAS does not accept responsibility for loss or damage of work or property whilst on site. You are responsible for insuring any works being shown or left on the property during the hire period.
● Please notify us via the Submission Proposal form if you have any specific accessibility requirements. Please note that parking is very limited and priority is given to loading and unloading, disabled parking and our resident studio holders. If you do require parking, this must be arranged in advance and by agreement with the BAS studio manager.
Our commitment:
● Included in the hire price will be 2 A2 posters for your show to be displayed in our A board which we put at the entrance to the studios to advertise the show. Social media posts and a Mailchimp invite for the private view to our mailing list subscribers, and a free ‘Whats on in Bath’ listing are also included in the price.
● Exhibitors should provide a short statement (max 250 words) and 3-6 Instagram images (1080x1080pix), website details, Instagram handle (list of Keywords)
● We have tables and glassware for drinks which can be used and we can publicise the opening night, along with the rest of the show, to everyone on our mailing list.
● All ticket sales or other administration must be carried out by you and no ticket sales or payments can be made through BAS’ processes or bank account.
● Plinths, step ladder and basic tools can be provided for your exhibition upon request

While reasonable precautions are taken by us to ensure the security and safety of the space being hired to you, BAS shall not in any way be liable for any loss or damage suffered by you or the persons using the space you have hired from us. Nothing in these terms shall limit or exclude our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, any fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability for which it is unlawful to exclude or limit liability. Our total liability for any matter arising out of the contract shall in all circumstances be limited to the charges paid by you for the gallery hire and we shall not be liable to you for any consequential loss whatsoever.
