Eyrka Pownall
Ceramics/Textiles
Eyrka works predominantly in ceramics, inspired by her interest in the pottery traditions of Cornwall. she creates glazes that reflect the light and landscape of the north coast from where the clay she works with is produced. The shapes Eryka throws out are smooth lined and simple, comforting and tactile. she enjoys the repetitive process of throwing sets of tableware items, refining shapes that eventually evolve into different designs that maintain a common aesthetic. Whilst Eryka has been focussed on developing these skills over the last few years, her interests and pursuits are varied and she is now embarking on a period of experimentation to bring the pathways of print, traditional photography and social history together with ceramics to forge a new and cohesive dimension to her creative practices. Recent practical studies in medieval tiles and colloidal photography appear to be the starting point.
