Jelena Dietrich
Jelena creates translucent porcelain pieces that sit between art and everyday use, with a particular focus on lighting. She began her ceramics education in Vienna, Austria, where she completed a diploma in Ceramics and Product Design, developing skills in mould making and porcelain slip casting. After a second degree in Painting, Jelena moved to Bath to pursue an MA in Fine Art (Ceramics), where she now have her studio at Bath Artists' Studios.
Jelena’s work combines simple, timeless forms with a sense of playfulness. She uses soft, minimal colours to highlight the natural qualities of porcelain, incorporating small glazed cut-outs inspired by Chinese Linglong porcelain, alongside delicate edges and textures.
Working primarily through slip casting, Jelena intentionally moves away from the perfection and symmetry associated with production ceramics. By allowing variation and movement within the process, each piece develops its own quiet individuality, shaped equally by the material, the making process, and hand.
