Maureen Hosier
Sculptor
Since moving to Bath in the late nineties, I have enjoyed making sculptures using all kinds of materials - metal , plaster, clay, alabaster and junk /found objects. I’ve had some sculptures cast in bronze (or bronze resin) and many I’ve welded, carved, cast or modeled. Sometimes what inspires me is the material - which often leads to more abstract work but other times a subject matter suggests the material route I take to complete an idea. It has been a sculptural journey of experiment plus lot of fun.
In 1967 I completed a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art (Painting) and in 1968 an Art Teachers Diploma - both at the University of Reading. I spent several years teaching - mostly in comprehensive schools. This was followed by paid and volunteer work including teaching physically and mentally handicapped adults, volunteering in an art group for juvenile offenders and education volunteer at the Holburne Museum.
I have exhibited several times at Bath Society of Artists Open Exhibitions, also at the RWA Bristol, Pound Arts Corsham, 44AD, and held a joint exhibition of metalwork sculpture throughout The Museum of Bath at Work in 2022.
I Designed the metal sculpture in Parade Gardens Bath “50 years of Bath in Bloom.”
