Rob Lunn

Rob’s Teaching Practice

Rob founded Quick Start Art, now known as Learn Oil Painting with Rob Lunn, in 2012, and enjoys sharing skills and teaching people to draw and paint. He is 90% self-taught, so when he is designing workshops for students, he always starts with a list of what he would’ve wanted if it had been him attending when he was starting out.

Rob’s oil painting courses and workshops are all about empowering students with a strong foundation in core skills. With the emphasis firmly on fun, the workshops ease students into the painting process. The process is broken down into clear and simple steps, each demonstrated by Rob, revealing the insider knowledge needed to make a real turning point in the student’s creative journey.

Rob’s courses promise to take the frustration out of the learning curve and get started quickly with interactive, tailored tuition. Perfect for complete beginners and beyond.

Born in Wiltshire in 1976, Rob now lives and work in the beautiful city of Bath. A self-taught painter, he returned to painting in his thirties after working as a designer and illustrator in publishing through his twenties.

The human form has always inspired Rob’s work. Although he loves still life and landscapes, he always find himself coming back to portraits. The painters who most influence Rob’s work are Vincent van Gogh, Michelangelo da Caravaggio and the Russian Wanderer, Ilya Repin.

Rob prefers to paint in oils and enjoys experimenting with new styles and techniques. He stretches his own canvases using traditional methods to ensure a top-quality supports. Combined with the use of the highest-grade British oil paints, this creates paintings that will stand the test of time.
