Patchwork Project 26

Patchwork Project 26 invites the people of Bath to help create a community patchwork quilt that reflects life in the city today.

Through free, artist-led stitching workshops for adults, participants will design an individual fabric square and add words, ideas and reflections to a growing collective artwork that captures a moment in time. All materials and guidance will be provided.

Inspired by America 250 - the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the project reflects on the hopes and needs that connect people across generations. While the world has changed dramatically, many human concerns remain constant: belonging, security, friendship, family and the opportunity to create together. The finished patchwork will become a community time capsule, shaped by the voices, memories and imagination of Bath residents.

Curated and led by Emma Reichenbach of Bath Spa University, supported by volunteer artists from Bath Artists’ Studios, and developed in partnership with the American Museum & Gardens, the project also aims to involve as many charities, community groups and civic organisations as possible, helping to build a work that represents a broad cross-section of Bath.
